Reach For The Stars Dinner
The Boys and Girls Club of Fond du Lac’s Annual Reach for the Stars Dinner is February 3rd at Marian University’s Stayer Center. The Fond du Lac Club serves over 1,500 area youth each year and over 325 kids every single day. The Reach for the Stars Dinner will have silent and live auction items available, as well as nationally known hypnotist, Fredrick Winters as the night’s entertainment. HOLY FAMILY TO HOST DINNER, SPEAKER FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS
Holy Family will be hosting a Mass, dinner and speaker for Catholic healthcare workers and their spouses in the Fond du Lac area, featuring noted author Bill Bazan of Columbia-St. Mary’s Hospital System. The event will take place on Friday, February 3 at Holy Family Church, starting with a Mass for healthcare workers at 5:30, followed by a buffet dinner and a talk about the interaction of faith, family life and profession. “Since many in the health professions spend more of their waking hours and energy at work rather than at home with family, we want to offer parishioners a way to use their faith as a way to integrate those vital areas of their lives,” says Fr. Bob Stiefvater of Holy Family Catholic Community. Cost for the event is $15 per person. FDL Women's Chorus Practice
The Fond du Lac Women's Chorus will resume rehearsals on Monday February 6 at 7:00p.m.. at Memorial Baptist church 645 Forest Avenue with a social to kick off the spring season. The spring concert will be taking place on Sunday May 20 at 2:00p.m. at the church. The chorus is comprised of women from all walks of life who love to sing. No auditions are required. UW-Fond du Lac hosts program exploring music and the Vietnam War
The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac will host a free presentation exploring music and the Vietnam War at noon on Thursday, Feb. 9, in UC-114, 400 University Drive. Presenter Doug Bradley, a Madison-based Vietnam veteran, served as a U.S. Army journalist in the war in 1970 and 1971. He will tell the story of the Vietnam War through the music-based memories of those who served. Bradley will show how soldiers used music to form bonds, express their feelings and hold on to humanity through a video montage of more than 20 Vietnam-era songs from Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Temptations, James Brown, and the Doors, with original film footage. Following his discharge and graduate school, Bradley moved to Madison and helped establish Vets House, a storefront, community-based service center for Vietnam era veterans in 1974. He has written extensively about his Vietnam and post-Vietnam experiences. Currently, he is collaborating on “We Gotta Get Out of This Place,” a book about music and Vietnam, with UW-Madison professor Craig Werner. They also co-teach a course at UW-Madison entitled The United States in Vietnam: Music, Media and Mayhem. The presentation is part of UW-Fond du Lac’s yearlong discussion of the personal impact of war coordinated by the Engaging Students in the First Year (ESFY) committee. Fond du Lac Aububon Presents Winter at Kiekhaefer Park

Join Earl and Carol Jewett for a guided winter exploration of the hilly trails at unique Kiekhaefer Park. Snowshoes may be reserved for the event courtesy of Attitude Sports. Attitude Sports will be hosting snowshoe demos at Kiekhaefer Park starting at 11 am. Park visitors will be able to try various snowshoes at no charge.

Fond du Lac Bar Association Presents a Forum: The U.S. Constitution, History and Today

FDL School Board Candidate Forum
The Fond du Lac Area Retired Educators’ Association (FAREA) will by holding a Candidates’ Forum on Wed., Feb. 15th for the 5 candidates running in the primary election for Fond du Lac School Board. The 5 are: Eric Everson, Will Jewson, Susan Jones, Peg Lautenschlager, and Larry Marchionda. The forum will be held in the City-County Legislative Chambers and will start at 7:00 p.m. The forum will be moderated by Judy Goldsmith, former Dean of the UW-FdL Campus. The primary election takes place in the Fond du Lac School District on Tues., Feb. 21st. Each candidate will have a chance to introduce themselves and tell why they are running for the School Board. This will be followed by three questions submitted to them ahead of time and several questions from the audience. The public is invited to attend. FAREA has 250 plus retired educators comprised of teachers, administrators, and support staff from all areas of education. Bowl For Kids Sake
Bowl For Kids’ Sake, the area’s largest bowling fundraiser, kicks off February 17 at Ledgeview Lanes in Fond du Lac. The public is invited to participate. This year’s 80’s themed event is slated to raise $80,000 to support one to one mentoring in Fond du Lac County. The event runs through February 19 in Fond du Lac and takes place on March 3 at the Plaza Bowl in Ripon. Pledge sheets and information are available at 448 S. Military, Fond du Lac, or by calling 920-922-8200. Each adult is asked to raise at least $75 in pledges. Youth are asked to raise at least $50 in pledges. Bowling is free for those who reach minimum levels. Prizes, including gift certificates and two night get-away adventures at Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells are available based on the amount of money raised. Participants are asked to register in teams of 4 to 6 people. Individuals are welcome, but will be added to teams at the event. Registration deadline is February 10. Additional prizes will be awarded for best 80’s themed style and for 80’s trivia and song competitions. The person who raises the most money in collected pledges will receive a $500 gift certificate to the business of their choice. The event is presented by Grande Cheese Company, Mid-States Aluminum, 96-1 TCX, and Charter.
